A Deeper Understanding Following their breakout Lost in the Dream, the War on Drugs signed to Atlantic for 2017's A Deeper Understanding, a sprawling fourth album produced by frontman Adam Granduciel and mixed by Shawn Everett. Its title borrows from a Kate Bush song, and its sound stretches the band's heartland-rock foundation across synth textures, motorik grooves, and patient, guitar-driven builds. The record earned the Grammy for Best Rock Album in 2018 and widespread critical praise for its meticulous, layered production, cementing the band as one of the decade's most studied rock acts.
